Tool Checkout is contingent on student workers. If closed, you are welcome to go to the N2 Wood Shop and check in to see when the next student worker is scheduled to come in.

Notes:
For Winter Break the N2 Woodshop, Tool Checkout, & Material Store will close on Friday 12/13 and re-open on Tuesday, 1/21/25.

All projects and materials must be removed from Making Center spaces by the end of day, Friday 12/13.
Any materials found after this day will be discarded.


Updates

N2 Tool Check Out has moved to the N2 Open Work Area outside the shop.

Please check in at the tool checkout desk before entering the shop.

Access

Note to Faculty:

To reserve the N2 Wood Shop for a class demo, please use the class reservation form. Provide at least 2 weeks’ notice for scheduling.


Mandatory Orientations

Orientations for the Fall 2024 semester have concluded.
To be considered for an additional Orientation, please complete the Making Center Orientation Waitlist form
Additional orientations will be scheduled based on demand.

Two types of orientations provide access to different tools in the Wood Shop: the Wood Shop Orientation (required for general access) and the Milling Orientation (for access to additional tools).

Please Note:

  • Students with prior orientations retain access to the shops moving forward.
  • If fewer than 3 people are signed up, you may be asked to reschedule.

Orientations will run this semester until October 6th

Dress Code

  • No open-toe shoes or heels are allowed.
  • No loose clothing.
  • All long hair must be tied back.
  • All hanging accessories must be removed.

Failure to adhere to the dress code will result in you being turned away

Wood Shop Orientation

Covers safe use of band saws, drill presses, sanders, chop saw, and table saw.

  • Complete the online module before signing up for the in-person session.
  • You must first complete the Making Center General Orientation. Here is the link to enroll.
  • Complete the Wood Shop Canvas Module
  • Sign up for the in-person session via Libcal after completing the online portion.
  • Note: The in-person element lasts for up to 2.5 hours.

 

Milling Orientation

Provides access to additional tools, including the table saw, jointer, and planer.

  • Prerequisites: Documented completion of both the online and in-person elements of the Wood Shop Orientation.
  • Complete the Milling Orientation Canvas Module.
  • Sign up for the in-person session via Libcal after completing the online portion.

N2 Shop Calendar

About the Shops

N2 Wood Shop

The shop is equipped with sanders, drill presses, bandsaws, Table Saw, Mitre Saw and light metalwork tools. It is staffed with technicians during all open hours.

Students are responsible for understanding safety protocols, including etiquette, approved material use, required PPE, and proper equipment use.

Material Safety

Before purchasing outside materials for use in the shop, first check the N2 Approved Materials list.  Next you must obtain an SDS sheet to ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal. You can find SDS sheets on the manufacturer’s website, at the point of purchase, or on the official SDS website.

All plastic facilities are closed for the time being.

 

N2 Tool Checkout

The N2 Making Center Tool Checkout is a tool loan center that provides tool access to Parsons students. Tools provided by the N2 Tool Checkout must be used following all New School safety protocols and facility policies.

Available equipment includes: Hand Tools, Power Tools, Cutting Tools, Measuring Tools, Marking Tools, Clamps, etc.

Students are responsible for the condition and care of all tools including accessories that are associated with them. At the time of rental, students should check the condition of all tools checked out. It is the responsibility of the student to inform the staff of any problems or concerns with the tool.

Materials purchased from the N2 Materials Store are available for pickup here.

No orientation/prior authorization is required to check out this equipment.
