Light + Energy Lab

Academic Year 2024-25 Update

After a summer overhaul, the Light + Energy Lab is happy to welcome new students and previous patrons alike. The renovation included the increase of the usable space in room E309 and the relocation of the Diffuse Sky Simulator (DSS) to the 2nd floor (next to room 206).

Mandatory Orientation

Students are welcome to use the Light + Energy Lab during open hours

 

  • If you want to use a step ladder in the Lab you need to complete the step ladder training

 

  • Lighting Design Students have after-hours access to the space via scan card if they have completed the step ladder training

Reservation / Use Protocol

Faculty who want to host their class for assignments or demoing equipment at the Light + Energy Lab; will need to reserve the space by filling out THIS FORM.

 

  • The form must be submitted 5 days before the requested date
  • If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will forfeit your reservation
  • After filling out the form, you will receive a follow-up email to confirm your reservation or reschedule it, in case the desired time slot is not available

 

About the Light + Energy Lab

The Light + Energy Lab is a space designed for the manipulation and experimentation of light. We have an extensive collection of lighting fixtures, lighting and electrical components, tools, and instruments. With them, students can test, learn, and develop an awareness of the Lighting Design field.

 

The Light + Energy Lab is open to all degree-seeking students at The New School.
