UPDATE: N2 TCO has moved to the N2 Open Work Area outside the shop.
N2 Woodshop Open Task Time (Fall 24)
- Monday-Tuesday: 9am – 8pm
- Wednesday-Thursday: 9am – 9pm
- Friday: 9am – 5pm
- Saturday – Sunday: 10am –1pm, 2pm – 6pm
Students who were oriented in the past will retain access (see eligibility and requirements).
For Winter Break, the shop will close on Monday, 12/16 and re-open on Tuesday, 1/21/25.
All projects and materials must be removed from Making Center spaces by the end of day, Friday 12/13.Any materials found after this day will be discarded.
All plastic facilities are closed for the time being.
NOTE TO FACULTY:
If you would like to reserve the N2 Wood Shop to give a demonstration to your class, please use the class reservation form.
We ask that you give us at least 2 weeks notice, so that others can plan. Thanks
Mandatory Orientation
Orientations for the Fall 2024 semester have concluded.
To be considered for an additional Orientation, please complete the Making Center Orientation Waitlist form.
Additional orientations will be scheduled based on demand.
There are two kinds of Open Sign up Orientations for access to Wood Shop machinery and tools, the Wood Shop Orientation and the Milling Orientation. The completion of each gives students access to specific equipment in the N2 General Shop and E4 Wood Shop.
Wood Shop Orientation
This orientation covers covers safe operation of the band saws, drill presses, sanders, chop saw and table saw.
Students must complete the online element first, in order to sign up for the in person element.
Access to the Wood Shops wont be granted until this portion is completed.

- Once you have completed that, you can follow the link in canvas to sign up for the in-person element in Libcal (lasting 2.5 hors)
Please Note: If an orientation has less than 3 reservations, you may receive communication 24 hours before your booking requesting you to sign up for a different time slot.
Milling Orientation:
This Orientation covers safe operation of the Table Saw, Jointer, and Planer.
Prerequisites:
- Documented completion of the Wood Shop Orientation (both online and in person elements)
- Completion of the online element of the Milling Orientation
- Once you have completed that, you can follow the link in canvas to sign up for the in-person element in Libcal
DRESS CODE
- No open-toe shoes or heels are allowed.
- No loose clothing.
- All long hair must be tied back.
- All hanging accessories must be removed.
failure to adhere to the dress code will result in you being turned away

About the N2 General Shop
The General Wood/Metal Shop is equipped with sanders, drill presses, bandsaws, and various light metal work tooling.
Students are responsible for understanding all safety protocols and policies of the facility regarding etiquette, approved material use, required safety equipment / PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and proper equipment use.
The shop is staffed with technicians during all open hours.
Before purchasing any materials not on the N2 General Shop Approved Materials list, get an SDS sheet for the material.
The needed SDS sheets contain important information about handling, storage, safety needs and disposal of the material. Check the manufacturer or producer’s website for the SDS sheet for your material or ask at the register before the purchase. The official SDS website may also have the needed MSDS sheets for your material as well.

If you would like to reserve time the shop to do a demo, please fill out the Faculty course reservation form in order to reserve . We ask that you give us three weeks notice
