Academic Year 2024-25 Update
All Making Center labs and shops will close at 5pm on Wednesday 11/27 and will remain closed through Sunday 12/1 for Thanksgiving break.
COMPULSORY PPE
Access to the Casting Room is restricted unless wearing proper PPE. Anyone using the space must wear:
– Nitrile gloves
– Goggles
– Tyvek suit
– Respirator with appropriate cartridges
The Tyvek suit and respirator must be provided by the student, as the Making Center does not sell these items.

Space in the casting room is limited and can only support 1-2 students at a time depending on the scale of the project.
There is NO sanding allowed in the casting room.
Mandatory Orientation
To complete the online orientation, enroll in the “Making Center Trainings and Authorization” course in Canvas and complete the “L3 Resin Room” module.
Be sure to fill out the authorization form at the end to be given access to sign up for Libcal reservations.
You will need to pass the orientation to be able to sign up for a time slot on Libcal.
Reservation / Use Protocol
You can book 1-3 hour long reservations in 30 minute intervals.
If you miss your appointment or you’re 30+ minutes late, you will receive a warning. 3 warnings, you lose access to the CNC space for a week. 4 warnings, you lose access for the rest of the semester.
Booking limits: MAX one reservation per day, three per week.

For safety reasons and precautions, no other products or materials are allowed without direct approval from the shop manager. Talk to the CNC Shop staff if you have any questions.
STORAGE
Projects can be stored on the storage shelf for up to one week. They must be labeled with a slip and signed off by a technician. Projects stored for over a week will be thrown away.
Materials/open containers can be stored in the fire cabinet for one semester. We highly encourage the use of this space to not contaminate the rest of the campus. Please label your containers with your name and date.
